Hey Everyone! I'm currently featured in an online exhibit, "Illustrated Girls", for the Girl Museum. Here is my artist statement for the piece Feminine Characters, Books, Readers:
In Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice she writes, “I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.” I easily relate to Austen’s words and feel that they express a person’s love of reading. Since I was a little girl I’ve had a passion for reading, books, and art, which led me my career and interest in book illustration. According to data from a study done by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics global databases, “young women accounted for 59 per cent of the total illiterate youth population”. This work represents some of the influential female characters and encourages young girls to read. Check it out here: https://www.girlmuseum.org/project/illustrated-girls/ My second piece for Girl Museum will be featured in another exhibit in Early 2020. I will share more information and updates regarding that piece soon. Excited to share it with everyone!
